Agave Nector
Many of you know my wife Alie, is a diabetic. One of the reasons I looked for a sweetner other than sugar - or honey was for her.Recently I learned about the glycemic index which simply put rates foods not just on how much sugar / carbs they have, but rather on how quickly our bodies digest them.
Plain white bread has a index of 100 and non carb foods like steak have a 0.. Rice and potatoe's have very high ratings (100+) but oatmeal is somewhere in the low 30's
So what is Agave Nector ? Its a syrup which tastes like sugar - a little sweeter.. but no aftertaste of stevia.
Its not calorie free.. one tablespoon has about 60 calories. but the glycemic index is 35 ! So your body is not going to get a sugar rush..
I am still doing more reasearch on the Glycemic Index
Wikipedia post on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index
And for sugar substitutes

Just thought I would share.
